Awards to doctoral students and new researchers

A limited number of awards are available to facilitate attendance at the Congress by students currently registered for a PhD (or equivalent academic qualification) and those within the first three years of appointment to their first academic post (new researchers).
Applicants for an award should be making a contribution to the congress (have a paper accepted for presentation in a workshop, provide a poster or produce a communication paper).

Awards will be calculated to cover registration fees, the congress dinner, and en-suite single room student accommodation for a maximum of five nights, as well as a contribution of up to £110 towards travel costs (against travel documentation).

The allocation of awards will be on merit by decision of the IIRAEurope07 Academic Steering Group. Applicants with a documented research interest pertinent to one of the four themes of the congress will be preferred to those without such a documented interest. (Evidence here might include a supporting statement from a doctoral supervisor or evidence of work undertaken in the area, including the nature of any paper submitted to this Congress).

We wish to facilitate attendance by doctoral students and new researchers from less affluent countries and institutions who may find it more difficult than others to raise funds for travel and attendance. Information relevant to this may be included in the supporting statement and will be taken into account in making allocation decisions.

Applications should be made before 23rd March. Applicants who have not already submitted a paper or poster for refereeing may do so in conjunction with their application for an award. Click here for the application form.

Only a limited number of awards can be made. Decisions of the ASG will be final and will be notified before the end of April 2007.

Assistance for academics from Eastern and Central Europe

A small amount of funding is available to assist attendance by academics based at institutions in Eastern or Central Europe who have had a paper accepted for presentation in a workshop or as part of an invited symposium at the Congress, but who do not fall into the above category (doctoral student and new researcher).

Anyone wishing to be considered should apply by 23rd March with details of why assistance is necessary. Applications should be sent to mcc.reg@manchester.ac.uk. Decisions of the ASG will be final and will be notified before the end of April 2007.
